Maija Pääkkönen is a Project Coordinator and Office Secretary at Profium. She started at the Mikkeli office six months ago and has already taken on a wide range of responsibilities, even though not every aspect of the role has yet landed on her desk.
A workday that adapts to changing situations
Maija’s workdays consist of a variety of tasks that can shift quickly depending on project needs. At the Service Desk, she acts as the first point of contact for customers. She receives support requests and records them immediately in GitHub so that software developers can start addressing the issues without delay. Maija ensures that customer needs are translated into clear, actionable tasks in the team’s backlog.
At the office, Maija is responsible for keeping the daily rhythm running smoothly. She handles purchases, organizes office spaces, coordinates maintenance visits, books meetings, and arranges travel. When events need to be organized or visitors welcomed, Maija takes responsibility for managing the overall arrangements. The tasks are varied, but she enjoys being able to concretely contribute to a well-functioning work environment.
Daily teamwork
Maija works closely with software developers and other colleagues. Daily discussions and moving projects forward are a natural part of her role. She values the flexibility of her work, which makes it easy to adapt her schedule. She often starts her day early and uses the quiet morning hours to focus on completing tasks.
A path into the IT field
Maija’s path into IT was not entirely straightforward. Her interest in coding began early, but after high school she first went directly into working life. Ten years later, she decided to pursue what truly interested her and enrolled at XAMK to study Information and Communication Technology, specializing in game programming. Her studies strengthened her logical thinking and problem-solving skills, which benefit her daily in her current role.
A clear boundary between work and free time
Maija does not work remotely, which helps keep work and personal life clearly separate. After the workday, she heads to the stable to take care of her lease horse, which requires significant time and care. She also enjoys spending time outdoors with her dog and attending yoga or gym sessions. When she has time, Maija also plays e-sports, which helps her relax and reset her mind.
Future plans
Looking ahead, Maija hopes that her passion for coding will become an even stronger part of projects. She wants to use her education in practical development tasks and contribute to building functional and impactful solutions. Her long-term goal is clear: she aims to coordinate large and demanding IT projects while continuing to develop her expertise in the field.
